Interesting !........What shipwreck ? "salvaged" ?...What does that mean ? Any other details came along with this ?

That's all the information that came with it.

It might hurt if it were made of something other than silver, but for that price I think it is a worthwhile conversation piece!

That's my thinking as well. For ~$12, it's something out of the ordinary. I'm going to withhold judgement on it's authenticity until I have it in hand.

I like the sense of time and history to those Roman pieces.

That Barber half is interesting too--it almost looks ancient!
Not sure that one would "slab" though!

It's blowing my mind that it's possible to pick up circulated examples of low mintage U.S. coins that used to be "real" money for such low prices.

Thought I'd add this one to the growing list. Poor old thing has seen alot of abuse, but it's one of the keys to the Liberty Head Nickel series - fills a hole.

Today I received:
- China 1 jiao,
- China 5 jiao,
- Japan 5 yen
as a part of the never-ending quest to collect all the dates of those series.
And what is more important,
- Japan 500 yen (TWO lovely examples) Why do I like them so much anyway?

Well eaglefoot, you're about 400 years off.

But seriously, the history connected to them is one of the main reasons I collect them!

I just picked up a 70 mint set dirt cheap on evil-bay.
The seller listed the set with "damage" to the packaging.

It was cheap enough, and no one else was bidding,
so I took a chance.

I was pleasantly surprised that the "damage" was only
a small bit of writing, in ink, on the lower right of
the envelope! Just under 10 bux shipped!
Coins are great.

Also picked this up for 13 bux...
I didn't really need it, or particularly want it,
but the bid was so low, and no one bothered to
outbid me... So I got it.

Here's a big ol' nasty dime with lots of solder and scratches and stuff. Not much to look at, but lots of personality for the dollar it cost me!

As soon as I posted that, I thought .....now somebody is certainly going to know the years they walked the earth and point out that they couldn't have "touched" these coins !..........

Ahhh well.....forgive me !......I couldn't tell ya when Anthony dated Cleopatra either !
Nor do I know the date of Kublai Khans death (without looking it up !)
I couldn't tell ya when Alexander the Great died.
Or when Charlemagne took power.....(768.....yeah I looked it up !...)

So, my point, I guess I should have researched that a tad before posting !............good call on seeing my error !

That looks like the shadow of a "CC" on the reverse.
That would surely add to the character anyway!
