I'm with SPP all the way on this. I was in CONECA a while back early, but have done nothing for 2-3 years. That's where the knowledge is, not discussion sites.

And me I agrees also with SPP and OKI for using the terminology in place. Why? because is use from so many years, and changing is not only the resistance of the collectors the main factor, but changing thousands of daily habitude and behavior of peoples is very hard. Then to change all the slabs will be also hard if not impossible. I can give many examples of how complex is the processes of terminology's changing.

My point was only that the TPG can add on the active nomenclature an timing of the error is occur. CONECA, error-ref.com I think are the bibles of numismatic. They explain clear and at point. Also all the experts know very well the timing of the mint process failure. This is no doubt.

I wrote just for purpose of education, mean to clarify for someone's the term "Lam" with the subcategories and give very few hints on the timing occur.

I think SPP and OKI for example can wrote a book for those Canadians coins errors and put in place a website.

I am far too busy writing research papers to scientific journals with my real job... my hobby is a mental escape for me, not to work even more!! I do help out Christian Houle with his books and contribute elsewhere, but more on an ad hoc basis, like I do here.

Maybe when I retire (10-12 years from now), I will then write about coins again. Until then, I will continue to make maps and write about Canadian rocks and dirt!!

I don't collect errors now, nor have I ever. My game is Vicky large cent varieties and always has been. I answer some questions on this and other sites and give my opinion on some of the photo questions put on here. I couldn't now wouldn't ever publish any book, but have assisted on some papers and journals.

Another new find.
1.27 gms. The indentations evident both sides are part of the planchet flaw pre split or part of the cause. I also believe this one has incomplete clip. I bet Rob yells at me......LOL
The strike is so weak I believe it was split before strike. Thoughts? MM

A split after should show a stronger strike.
The coin clearly shows a weak strike on thin planchet.

I mentionned "thin planchet" but I had "split planchet" in mind

Definitely a split before strike. And with that possible incomplete clip

Nice coin again Mike!

Here is my new coin related to my Split Planchet Serie.

Two errors can be observed.

1 - 1.41g split planchet before strike
2 - about 50% indentation by a second planchet

The split planchet was seated on the Anvil side. The overlapping planchet produced enough pressure to obliterate striations.

The coin is slightly bent, and we can observe some denticules on the reverse produced by the Hammer Die.

****** Edited *****

I've added a new picture showing the coin size. The new picture shows a normal 1 cent overlapping the split planchet. The split coin is clearly oversize. So it was struck out of collar.

I see denticles on the reverse side but no reverse details...... split before strike, multiple planchets in chamber, split planchet on collar, 2nd planchet on top but off center, struck by late stage cap......maybe lolol......fun error. Thanks for sharing.
I base the "on top of collar" by the stated fact, it is bent.....
I base off centre second planchet....indent strike off centre
I base "struck by late stage cap" on the obvious reverse denticles with trails but no other details
HELP LOLOL
