Princetane Pillar of the Community 4628 Posts	Posted 01/09/2021 8:29 pm Wow was not expecting this to happen until much later in the year. Well here goes. 1921 Australia Florin in Fine Condition. On left 1921 Sydney Star shilling. The star was not a mintmark but was originally for a trial where they would reduce silver content to 50% and mark the coins with the star. This never happened, but the star remained on the 1921 dated shillings. The other coin is 1933 as I took the shots together, if it helps it is at least a very scarce coin and the key date of Aussie shillings! Report this Post to the Staff
Princetane Pillar of the Community 4628 Posts	Posted 01/09/2021 8:40 pm I also have this above average Half Crown from 1921. This is a near EF example, the first debasing of British silver coins in 1920 led to a 50% Silver, 40% Copper and 10% Nickel alloy which gave the coins an unnatural whitish look when fresh, however when they wore like this florin below, they turned a nasty green/brownish colour. This one is not that bad, but you can see that browning in the fields. Like Numis Rob said a while ago, a lot of early 20s British silver is usually encountered in G - Fine condition as few people held on to them like the 1910s sterling silver in which lots of EF - UNC can be found. I agree, all of my early 20s stuff is VG or Fine, with just a few halfcrowns in the VF high VF region. Also a decent (F/VFish) penny with the "wood graining" Report this Post to the Staff
