The obverse of the 1925 Battle of Lexington-Concord Sesquicentennial Half Dollar is dominated by a depiction of the "Concord Minuteman" statue located in Concord, MA. The coin's reverse presents the Old Belfry Tower in Lexington, MA.
The statue (and the coin) feature a standing minuteman (or citizen-soldier) shown with his left hand gripping his plow (representing his primary occupation as a farmer) and his right hand holding a long gun that he will use, if necessary, to defend his family and home in his role as a part-time soldier.
Chester Beach modeled the coin's obverse design on the statue created for Lexington-Concord's centennial in 1875, the credit for the design thus needs to be shared with the statue's sculptor, Daniel Chester French.
