My favorite way to collect coins is to dig through the five (or sometimes more) for a dollar bins of random low end foreign that every dealer around this area maintains.
Genuine surprises and very good value can be found in these dirty metal treasure piles. And the turnover is frequent; there are always new discoveries to make. Foreign is appealing not just for its low cost, but also for the diversity and appealing designs. I have built a nice representation of bi-metallics from these pick-em tubs. And yes; those Krause world catalogs are immense. I use them as a check-off list for my tub and auction lot finds.
Happy hunting, folks.

I would say the closer one gets to the center of the country the less likely a person is to travel to other countries for a variety of reasons. Limited exposure to other cultures limits interest.

As a person who lives very near the geographic center of the United States I can attest this (at least for us) is very true. My wife and I have spent the last couple of decades exploring the vast diversity of the U.S., and we still have many places we would like to see. We really have no interest in traveling outside the U.S. and have very little interest in foreign coins.
