S Mint Marks

ok cool because I found what seems to me an uncirculated 1933s this morning, and a few other which brought up my question.

correction '73s not a '33s. unfortunately, that mistype made it sound so much better

I recently found a 74S in pocket change. I did put it aside when I looked into it and saw it was one of the last years of S penny production. Never graded one but I'd guess 20s? You can still read and see everything without magnification.

This may be true but it depends on how many of those Millions are kept MS/BU I would think.

I also keep them as I rarely find them living on the east coast. I may find one every month or two but that's about it. its hard for me to get boxes where I live so max I do $5.00 worth at a time. The one box only full box I've done yeilded I think 4 with one being a wheat (44s is I remember right.) I also look through the till at work for anything cool and even found a steel penny a few months ago. Keeping them is up to you though but I'd say why not? It's only $.01 so it's not like it'll make or break you and since you posted this thread a part of you wants to keep it. Also it's copper so how could you go wrong? KEEP IT!!

Out here on the West Coast, I find early 70s S mint cents all the time. In fact, just the other day, some of my classmates were tossing a coin around in the gym- when it came in my direction I caught it, and guess what it was- a 1972-S proof! Unfortunately, I had to give it back to them, and it was covered in fingerprints anyway. In hindsight, I guess I could have just offered them a nickel for it.

I wasn't thinking about that- I do keep all coppers, though, so I guess that means S's as well.

I keep all S-mint coins that I find, even though many of them do not command a premium at this time. It's a good way to have a little fun for me and also offers small scale savings, if nothing more.
