It falls within the VF-30. I agree with straight grade as well.

Somewhere in the VF window of the grading spectrum.

VF-25 sounds about right. The scratches in the right reverse field should not qualify as a problem at this level of wear.
Despite the wear it's a nice example of this scarce date. Just the kind of half eagle I like!

I think a lot of the apparent wear is strike-related.

This is the first gold coin I recall seeing from you GERMANICVS!

VF35 straight grade. Really, a remarkable early half-eagle.
This date and MM are notorious for terrible strikes.

Everyone (including myself) loves to drool over Dahlonega and Charlotte gold, but finding decent, problem-free early New Orleans gold is no less challenging, especially considering the relatively poor quality control present at the no mint during this era. It's easier to find a lustrous, sharply-struck D or C mint coin than to find the same with an O on the reverse.

I would also be at VF-35. I would not be shocked if Coinfrog was correct.

Looking at the wear around the rim and into the denticles I think it is less strike and more just plain wear. VF-30.

Well, thanks everybody for your input.
This is a coin I bought for my son about 10 years ago. He will be happy to hear your grading opinions.

@jacrispies, you are quite correct. My US collection is primarily copper, and some silver with only a handful of gold pieces. In a way, I regret that now.
