I 'almost lost a package sent to me from the US Mint (A rather expensive package too) - The label was loose and just fell off in my hand when it arrived...

That's ridiculous. Anybody that ever got a package from me can tell you I completely wrap package several times in shipping tape and finish it off with a shipping label completely attached and covered with tape (except bar code). That's some of the best (and cheapest) insurance you'll need. Most lost or damaged packages are due to poor packing.

I do not mind breaking a sweat when opening up a package. It means the seller cared.

And, one of the 2 packages my original post was about (shipped April 8th) still hasn't been delivered (nor found) since I put in the missing package claim.

...I've had 3 ( ebay) overseas packages, one from Germany, one from Spain, & one from Puerto Rico USA ... all went almost 30 days with no delivery, I filed claims on all 3 & received a refund ...

...months later, all 3 were delivered. I had to contact the sellers to re-invoice me so they could get paid ...

...I did get the items (eventually), but what should have taken about 2 weeks took almost 3 months ...

...I was told by my local P.O. that the ebay discount rate deliveries are given low to last priority handling. What doesn't make sense to me is the added cost to the postal system incurred by shipping & scanning the packages, unnecessarily, all over creation, before routing them to the end destination ... too many opportunities for loss or damage ... just makes no sense to me ...

Probably true, however my missing package is an Amazon which used to be a postal priority (they deliver them on Sundays). However, nothing seems to be a priority with USPS these days........

Currently enjoying my own wandering ebay envelope. Enroute from Baltimore, MD to eastern Pennsylvania, it appears to have taken a sharp left turn and arrived in Los Angeles, CA!

Okay, so I've been waiting on a package that started out here in NC about 110 miles from me. Tracking shows USPS in possession of the item on 9/24. So in typical Postal fashion, item is routed through 2 different locations in Pennsylvania before arriving back in city of origin. It has made it to my post office today, and if they don't screw it up any further it should be here tomorrow. Item that I am waiting on........a 10 pack of USPS medium flat rate boxes.
