It's a lovely piece. I'm curious how big the box actually is—it's hard to get a sense of scale from the pics.

Another impressive box. Great story as well.

Extremely beautiful. Quote: it's hard to get a sense of scale from the pics. Agree, how about placing a slab up against it,

Quote: Agree, how about placing a slab up against it, Trying to convey scale in these images without something to visually compare against is impossible. These are jury set photos intended to impress the expert panel of jurors and get my work (and me) admitted into high end craft shows. The applications for these shows require me to provide the dimensions, but if I told you in words that this box is 15" tall does that solve the dilemma? Not really. So - here is Pisces on my workbench next to the grey headed woodworker. Now you can get a sense for her relatively small size.

Nickelsearcher that is one beautiful box and the wood selection is great, I know because I did woodworking and made small Jewry boxs to sell at shows, black walnut, cherry, oak , birds-eye maple, spalled maple plus a few others. I also used the fish type handle on some doors and drawers around the house and boxs some 20 years ago.
Sorry for the rant but it is nice to see some very nice woodworking.

Thank you all for the kind comments. I realize this is a coin forum - so it's good to build community connections in the Family Topics forum. Quote:
What's the chair for..... The chair is where I use hand tools (primarily rasps, files and scrapers) to shape the curves on my box parts after the power tool grunt work has been done. It's my shop Zen spot where I hold the parts in one hand and the tool in the other and work in harmony with what my eye is trying to create. I suppose you need to go there to fully appreciate the quiet joy of sitting in that chair while slowly creating with my hands what my eye wants to see. Quote: And is what's in the Festool case. It holds the sandpaper for my 5" diameter random orbit sander. I have a partner Festool HEPA dust collector with hose that connects to the sander. This sanding tool combination is an impressive engineering achievement - I can honestly say I've had zero sanding dust in my shop since I purchased them. They are the only Festool tools I own - pricy they are but very high performing. BTW - I'm ready to kick off my 15K post contest - as soon as I get there and my right elbow recovers from surgery tomorrow.

Haha, thanks for the scale image. =)
When I first saw it, I imagined a chest of drawers about hip high! Still a very nice piece, you must have incredible patience to work on these projects!
