Straight grade puts me in at 55; could it be a details grade due to spot in field @ her brow, lips and under chin ?

I'm going AU58. As for the toning, I've seen a lot worse. If the price was right, and you like it, then that's the ticket!

Based on the grading opinions from the members made here, it's between the AU-58 and the MS-62, with one at AU-55...

Nobody got it. I can't figure it out. Even under a loupe I'm not really seeing wear. The reverse feather strike is also phenomenal for a 1921. I thought it woulda been a 55 at absolute worst case but more likely a 58 or 62. Guess I have a lot to learn about grading these...

The only thing I can think of is maybe the luster is slightly broken on it. It's pretty dark toned so it's hard to tell. I definitely do see a full cartwheel around the outer part of the coin but the actual liberty head and eagle may be slightly more muted? Even then I would think maybe a 55 or 58... not a 50.

The thing that's really throwing me for a loop is the reverse feathers. For example, this is a MS65 1921 Peace dollar up for sale right now.

The feather detail on my AU50 is WAY better than this MS65. Maybe my coin was a MS65/66/67 GEM and it entered circulation so now it's an AU coin? Wouldn't the feather detail have rubbed away a little if it went all the way down to a 50? Either way I'm stumped. I know some of you didn't like the coin, apparently Marv thinks its crap. If nothing else I think it's a bit of a conversation piece. "How did a 1921 with this good of strike only grade AU50?"

I have to imagine the toning affected the eye for detail.
