I'll refrain from the guess as I was the underbider, but this coin has a heck of a provenance.

ex: Dan Holmes & Dick Punchard

High AU seems right to me. Reverse has some issues.

i wish we had a better obv shot. I keep coming back to this one and would like to see what the obv left field looks like around K8-9 as well as the right field in back of the neck

I'm going to change my assessment of AU55+ as I'm not seeing any signs of wear so I'm going with MS62BN

Thanks for all the interesting comments and observations. I think it is at least AU58 but I probably won't have it graded.

This description was included for the auction and may answer some of your questions.

It's Late Die State and that may explain the reverse look. The back of neck area is also mentioned.

Yes, the provenance of Punchard and Holmes is impressive especially now that my grand daughter will add ...and my Pop Pop owned this too.

There was a Grellman grading card included and Bob assigned an EAC grade of EX45.

Early Cents Auctions uses EAC grading, so if submitted to PCGS/NGC it might just come back AU58 or even better. It's a really nice looking cent.
