Thank god. I tried it with a magnet and it did not stick.

Its porous surface and strike lacks authenticity compared to other genuine 1882, especially the date.

This does sadly look counterfeit perhaps, seems off.

I tried it with a strong refrigerator magnet. Would that not be enough to tell? I could feel the attraction to the metal on my Yeti, but nothing when I touched it to the coin.

Is there another test I can do?

For the grade, I'll say VF. I'm not going to comment on authenticity as I am not too familiar with this series.

The reeds look like crossties on a railroad track.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

This is what I got from Google.

Early issues (1838-1853) weigh 6.68 grams (103.125 grains), while later issues (1853-1891) weigh 6.22 grams

0.2 oz is under 6 grams, need a better scale that provide weights of 0.00 grams, they are fairly cheap on Amazon.

If you can do a ping test using another 90% silver quarter, and compare the one you got.

Take it to a LCS and see if they can test it, or have one that you can compare yours to. 1882 Seated Liberty quarter is a few hundreds in FMV for VF grades, so you want to be sure.

HondoB makes a good point about the reeds, these look off also.

How do I do the ping test? Isn't there also a tissue test? How does that one work?

VF Details (cleaned)

this is a better date and needs additional research to determine authenticity. I'm not seeing any glaring markers stating counterfeit but some fakes can be good.

a straight graded VF30 would be in the $450 range. I dont feel if it was authentic that it would grade straight. I'm not a fan of CACG at this time

here is the cost to have it graded and authenticated

PCGS - Economy grading $23 valued up to $300.shipping & ins both ways (1-4 coins is $27 if the total value is under $1000). PCGS charges a minimum of $69 for a subscription other subscription levels include grading vouchers though so you could reduce these costs.
1-coin $119 2-coins $72 3-coins $56 4-coins $44

NGC - economy grading tier is $25 (under $300) plus $10 handling fee, plus $28 for shipping (1-5 coins) and insurance both ways.
1-coin $63 2-coins $44 3-coins $37 4-coins $34

ANACS - Economy - No Gold: $18 per item for items valued up to $500. plus $29 for shipping (1-4 coins) and insurance both ways.
1-coin $47 2-coins $32 3-coins $28 4-coins $25

CACG - economy grading $15, gold $28, $40 shipping/handling/ins. Plus $99 subscription ($50 grading credit),
1-coin $139 2-coins $69 3-coins $46 4-coins $37

I've heard of the first three and thought that PCGS and NGC were the most respected (in that order) but what is CAC grading and why are they so expensive. I know NGC grates error coins, but what about the others. This isn't an error coin, but I have one I'd like confirmed and graded.
