1884 Indian Head Cent F.s. 401 MPD Variety ?

CaptJeffWorthFL Valued Member United States 256 Posts	Posted 08/28/2026 12:18 pm I am not too familiar with older varieties, but I usually notice anomalies or oddities when looking at coins and this caught my attention, I did some research, made a comparison photo of the obverse under the date. CaptJeffWorthFL Valued Member United States 256 Posts	Posted 08/28/2026 6:58 pm @coinforme I actually got the F.S. 401 info from PCGS Coin Facts after digging around from the information I found on Indian varieties website. The white arrows pointing show rhe same pattern in the rim of the bottom of both obverse sides under the date. That is why I am asking it is something or nothing. Is an F.S. 401 a designation for a double die obverse on Indian Head cents? If not what does the 401 designation mean. I know the meaning of FS 10-, 80- 90- 50- but 40- is new to me.
