Measuring Die Rotation? - Coin Community Forum

krupski60 Valued Member United States 80 Posts	Posted 05/04/2012 12:32 pm i am trying to measure die rotation on some of my coins. so using photo shop and some images from the web I came up with this. let me know what you think, whether this is a good way to approximate rotation or not. tanks, i shot 1983 over mirror. cropped obverse and reverse. flipped reverse. then I supper imposed these two images, from web, on obverse to align. I used "LIBERTY" as straight edge. using the second image I centered it on "0" with first image. i then copied the degrees layer I centered on first and superimposed on reverse. is the approximate rotation 35-40 degrees of rotation? what do you think? I am not trying to be bossy, but if you use a software called Shotwell you can find out the rotation up to 15 degrees with one click of the mouse...It is free to Window and Mac users also. See left coin I tilted slightly and the results on the right coin with rotation degrees at the bottom. Total of 3.6 degrees. Edited by wert 05/04/2012 12:53 pm Report this Post to the Staff
southsav Pillar of the Community 2225 Posts	Posted 05/04/2012 1:07 pm I'm not a geometry whiz so I need it explained on a 5 year old level. I followed your set up procedure but in the end not sure where your question of 35-40 deg came from. I think someone may have posted a tool on this before, I just can't find it. Nice job! I don't think rotations less than 90 deg have much value, I'm just not all that familiar with that area. Report this Post to the Staff
