Arrgg, toned coins, I never seem to get the grade right.

The mark west of the date is distracting, I'll say AU-62

Nice bunch of early Lincolns you have shown Thad.

When we are 103 years old we all will have a few distracting marks.
I didn't notice it at first.
I like the halo effect.

Spectacular, and I'm on board with the AU64 concept. The ding in front of the chin is circulation, I think, but the one behind the date looks as-struck. This one was a real Gem leaving the Mint.
Rest in Peace

beautiful! Do you think this resulted from an old dip? The reason I ask is because the center of the coin almost looks a bit unnaturally light in color. Either way, it is a beauty!

When I ran into this coin at a show it caught my eye....of course. It has been cleaned at some point - no doubt. The luster is absolutely flat so I have to characterize it as AU-58. The combination of the cleaning and probably album storage caused the toning, at least that is my best guess.

In the end, to me, it doesn't matter at all. A beautiful coin is a beautiful coin and I love having it in my collection.
