1867/67 Indian Head Cent With Strikethrough Error

DollarsNcents New Member United States 7 Posts	Posted 10/24/2022 5:14 pm I purchased this 1867/67 Repunched date Cherrypicker's variety awhile back and got a fairly decent deal on it because the seller sold it as a damaged coin. However, upon closer examination, I seen a strikethrough error on the obverse at K-12. (I believe it is struck through a wire) near the "damaged"/chipped rim area. I was wondering if this Repunched Date variety specimen could carry a premium due to the strikethrough error? Or could it lower the value of this variety? Thoughts? Report this Post to the Staff

DollarsNcents New Member United States 7 Posts	Posted 10/24/2022 5:46 pm The dealer was referring to the gouge on the rim and not the struck through wire looking anomoly around that area. I tried to upload my closup pics I took, but it wouldn't take that many pixels. The area in question is the wire looking anomoly running through the last S in STATES. These normal shots do not do the anomoly justice. I was more curious if this is a genuine struck through wire error, would it carry more of a premium on an already attributed Repunched Date variety. CarrsCoins Pillar of the Community United States 756 Posts	Posted 10/24/2022 6:03 pm im not super familiar with IHC errors but strike throughs usually have to be pretty significant to command a premium over a regular coin. they are sometimes a financial/demand negative. as an example most people dont want their 1916-d dime to have half the date Struck Through Grease. it kinda looks like a planchet flaw to me. alloy issues are pretty common and can lead to some interesting fissures in coins. Oldgrouchyguy Rest in Peace United States 632 Posts	Posted 11/11/2022 6:05 pm fwiw: Found a nice choice AU 1848 N-29 Large Cent, with a wire strike-through that ended over between stars 7-8. This die variety comes perfect, and then with a rimcud between stars 7-8. No intermediate state, like crumbling, etc. Apparently, the wire exploded a little piece of the edge from the die. I agree with minor strike thrus on key dates and overdates generally detracting from the value as described above, as well. Report this Post to the Staff
