Here's a spike head that was on its way to being a no date. I couldn't match it up with any known no dates though. Any comments or info appreciated. Thanks for looking

I was checking the Unanswered post and found your question. I'm not sure this coin makes the 'Retained' or 'Pre-Cud' qualification. The Cuds-On-Coins web page has the following.

A "Pre-Cud" is a precursor to most collectible of all die break errors called a Cud. The Pre-Cud starts out as a Rim-to-Rim Die Crack. When the die break starts to show lateral spread and horizontal offset it now becomes a Retained Cud. If the break separates from the die the result is a fully-fledged Cud.

It may have progressed to meet the 'Lateral Shift' requirement soon after this strike or even became one of the No Date Cuds.

I just don't think it was quite there at the time of this strike.
