The 1844 coin that I found at the long gone military base at Santurce S.J. The lettering around the portrait on the obverse is a somewhat abbreviated spanish inscription which translates,"Isabela II,by the grace of God and the Constitution,Queen of Spain" It is in good condition it was rated at very good condition at $5-7 in the year 2003. It was under 3inches of sandy soil around a small replica of the morro castle.I like to know its current value allthough it's not for sale.

Back when this thread was first posted back in May, I was waiting for a picture before commenting on this thread, then completely forgot all about it. Sorry about that.

At "the size of a US quarter", I'd assume the denomination is a 4 maravedis. Example on WCG.

Listed in Krause under Spain as KM# 530; there are two mintmark possibilities: a little aqueduct (Segovia mint) or the letters JA (Jubia mint). The JA mintmark is slightly scarcer. The mintmark is located at the bottom, in between the R of REYNA and the final S of ESPANAS; the WCG example is an 1845 JA.

As for the value of yours, I doubt it would have gone up much. Being a ground find, I assume it's quite corroded after a hundred-plus years in the soil?
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
