Commems Collection Philately Friday: #11 - 1975 US Haym Salomon - Unheralded Heroes

The United State Postal Service (USPS) issued a faily large number of commemorative stamps to mark the US Bicentennial. The issues covered a range of themes and personalities, and make for a varied and interesting collection.

One of the personalities to be honored was Haym Salomon; he was included in the "Contributors to the Cause" series (the series consisted of four stamps that honored Sybil Ludington (6-cent); Haym Salomon (10-cent); Salem Poor (10-cent) and Peter Francisco (18-cent)). Salomon's role in the American Revolution was not as a soldier, but that of a financier. (You can read more about him below on the Back of the First Day Cover (FDC).

The subject stamp here depicts Salomon at a desk/table writing in a journal/ledger book. Though somewhat difficult to see clearly, several 17th/18th century European coins are seen in the background. The stamp was designed by Neil Boyle.
