I thought they were supposed to be inspected before

Do they really do in person QC on proof sets? I had assumed that they were packed by machine. If not by 2000, certainly now?

I have a small hoard of 1950s and 1960s proof nickels with interesting strike through errors, mostly lint from polishing cloths. It's probably hard to see unless you angle the coin correctly under magnification, especially if the flaw is in the fields.
