sjaak301 New Member Netherlands 31 Posts	Posted 07/19/2011 3:29 pm Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. If possible I would like a sceond opinion on the state of a 1796 Draped Bust large cent. According to what I have read and seen on the site of PCGS (especially the photo grading subject) I think it might be somewhere between VG8 and VG10. Who can advise me on this? Looks like dirt among the devices and some granularity. Could be your photos. Kopper Ken Pillar of the Community United States 3402 Posts	Posted 07/20/2011 09:56 am I think that for a detail grade you have a F-12. Good hair detail, some drapery, eye, nose and mouth are great. On the reverse the legend lettes are sharp when not damaged and the ribbon is clear. The granularity and damages would bring it down. KK Report this Post to the Staff

It supports me in understanding grading which is after all a subjective thing, a personal opinion. With VG8 I'm on the safe side, I think. On the pictures the coin might look like corroded, but when tou see it in real it looks (fortunately) a little better. I agree, it is a very nice coin and like all old coppers: a coin with character.
