On the first coin I'd give it a F12 that may have suffered from an old cleaning.
The second coin is at least VF35 with a shot at XF40. The toning looks original to me.
I wouldn't be ashamed of either one no matter what they grade!

My best guess is F-15 to VF-20 Range and possibly cleaned long ago and re-toning around the rims. Not my strong suit, so maybe some Standing quarter experts will chime in. |

 w/ these assessments @ grades and cleaning. Personally wouldn't send #1 in to grade/slabbed, cost outweighs the grade. I definitely would #2, toning makes the big difference when determining original grading. IMHO!  |

The '27-S is notorious for strike weakness. Your first coin has about the same detail as my 1927-S which is graded VF-30 in an old small ANACS holder. It does look cleaned but I wouldn't be surprised by a VF Details grade if submitted.
Your second coin is much stronger and seems at least "market acceptable" for originality. I'd guess it will grade EF-45. Nice piece!

I don't think that the first will grade because of cleaning. It has Fine-VF sharpness. The second one should make EF-40.

It is really hard to get one that has not been worn on any high point of the coin except the date for 27-S. A 23-S in EF is worth more than the 27-S. I don't think the post 1925 SLQ's can be judged with same standard that you judge the pre-1925 coins. Both the 27-S coins we see are very worn except those strong dates which you almost never see pre-1925.
