Old small coin, possibly India?

I think it is silver but don't know for sure.

Any help identifying this is appreciated.

Maybe it is just a charm pendant?

East India Company, Bengal Presidency could be 1/4 Rupee like KM# 115 (2.9 g., Silver, 16.3 mm).
Obv. Inscription: "Shah Alam II
Badshah" Rev: Persian-sanat (year, mint name) Edge: Plain
Mint: New Calcutta Note: Mint name: Murshidabad

Or a variety of this (depends on exact weight, edge milling)

Thanks Eligius, it is about 16.8-17mm in diameter but I can't tell the weight exactly.

So it is a quarter Rupee. What does the edge look like? Blank or reeded?

There is not much wear on the coin, looks EF to me. It is unlikely that a possible edge milling would have wordn away. I assume it was minted with a blank edge. This makes it KM 115. Nice coin! Unfortunate that it is damaged by the hole.
