1942 No Mint Mark Wheat Penny - Coin Community Forum

Lookatmyak79 New Member United States 44 Posts	Posted 11/24/2022 07:14 am I have a 1942 no mint mark Wheat penny, which has a straight line coming straight down the face side of the penny. How would this be achieved, possibly from age and maybe in someone's pocket? It wouldn't be a die error would it? Also does not having a mint mark in that year be any sort of error. ijn1944 Bedrock of the Community United States 19304 Posts	Posted 11/24/2022 07:30 am no mint mark on this coin indicates it was minted in Philadelphia. The line on the obverse appears to be post-strike damage--a scratch. Report this Post to the Staff

A close up may tell us more. The diagonal line appears to be a scratch, just post mint damage. How was it made? Who knows? Damage is damage. Report this Post to the Staff
