@cipster That is a VERY nice 1811 O-112a! The die crack from the cap to the edge is just visible to meet the R-5 late die state. I'm still looking for one for my set, they are very tough in choice XF+. I'd love to see more of your halves! I'll share a crackly one too:   Suffering from bust half fever. Thank you so much for this informative post! I am just starting to enjoy the beauty of these coins. My primary interest has been early date coppers and pre-federals.
Oldgrouchyguy gave me a website address for Overton number identification and I tried to use it to id my 2 examples but to no avail. Wizard coin supply states that the Peterson book is easier to use. Thoughts welcomed.
(It blows my mind how much I've spent on books)

I don't know which site he gave you to work with, but I usually use this one before going to my books. http://maibockaddict.com. I guess I find it more convenient than digging out my books and has an easier way to nail the die marriages down using the T-I alignments like jacrispies mentions in the original post. |

wow, very informative. seems just as tedious as trying to attribute morgan VAMs. this is a series i'd love to get into if I weren't in the poorhouse. I have 2 capped bust halves: 1812 w/rotated die & 1823, ugly 3 variety. I love them both. thanks for posting this info.
