Difference In Finishes Between P And D Modern Quarters Or My Imaginaton?

Perhaps you live a little closer to the Denver mint as compared to the Philadelphia mint, so those quarters had passed through a few more hands by the time they got to you? Vector Ze Pillar of the Community United States 594 Posts	Posted Today 1H 21M ago Depending on how common these satin finish coins are, is there a possibility they're escapees from the satin finish coins included in 2005-2010 US Mint Sets, maybe never included in the sets but from the same runs? By the same token, since 2011 Mint Sets have featured the "Brilliant" finish. So, for over 20 years the Mints have been cranking out coins with finishes that are not typical business strikes. Just tossing random thoughts in the air. In either case, I wouldn't think these would constitute a significant part of the population. The Mint only acknowledged there was a difference (by calling them Brilliant Finish) after the satin finish was abandoned in 2011. After the 1965-1967 SMS run, uncirculated mint set coins continued to be made differently. They were still minted on different presses (lower speed & higher pressure) with fresher dies and received better handling than typical business strike coins. This may have not been the norm, and some mixing may have occurred, but their distinction from regular business strikes coins has been certain since the the sets resumed in 1984 and the press lines were separated. I am pulling this from memory. Cladking may come along and correct some things for me.
