I just recently got my "grades are ready" alert for a 1884 Alamos 8 Reale that I purchased raw while on a trip to Italy. It for sure was one of the finest examples I've seen, and had to see what PCGS thought about it. Came back MS64, which makes it pop 1, finest known. Here's my question— with so few auction comps, and it now being a top pop, how do I determine a realistic value? PCGS Cert below, and TrueView attached.. The Top Pop status generally adds some value if your target buying audience are PCGS Registry Set collectors. If you get 2 Registry Set collectors bidding on it in a public auction the value can often far exceed expectations. That said - there are only 8 collectors currently chasing a Mexico 8 Reales on the PCGS site. That seems like a small pool of folks who might be interested in this as a Top Pop Registry item. So - my suggestion is to compare to the price of other MS64 examples and thats likely to be close to where yours will end up valued in the market.
