Those coins were supposedly 'legal tender' across France but you had to be in the region named on the coin to get one - they were only available at main post offices in that region for face value! So this is an authentic Corsican coin! I went on holiday to Spain that summer and drove up and down through France, zig-zagging to try to pass through as many regions as possible to get the coins. I didn't cross the Mediterranean to get to Corsica though!

Thanks NumisRob - I didn't travel to Corsica, but I did use the map on Numista to 'travel to every island they listed to try to get a coin for each island country.
