When Platinum Circulated In The US In The Form Of Forgery

When the Spanish conquest went through South America to 'raid' their rich natural reserves, platinum was often found with gold. This was initially deemed as 'useless piece of silver' when smelting, hence the name platin as it sounds similar to plata (silver in Spanish). Soon fraudsters found the density of platinum useful as platinum is denser than gold. Eventually some European gold coins were counterfeited in particular Spain and France. British gold sovereigns were targeted but these are less common.

I'm always on the look out to find early platinum coins that circulated and that includes forgeries. Today I found interesting article that mentioned how fraudsters in the US hollowed out early 10 and 20 dollar gold coins and fill them with platinum plug (!)

Have anyone come across such adulterated coin? Can't imagine it to be too common. Got to admit that I would like to own such example.
