There is no extra value in selling the collection as a whole. Your circulated common dates are going to be about melt $22 to $25 each. If you took the common dates to a dealer, they will most likely offer about 15% under melt. Price out the better dates and key dates that will bring more than $25 each and you can put a number to the entire collection.

That is a nice looking set, thank you for sharing the images! I would hate to see it broken up, so you might want to try to sell it intact first. You have nothing to lose but time. A dealer would be faster. They are going to offer well below melt for the common coins and will lowball you on the better ones. They have to make a profit, too. Good luck!

Hello jbuck, nice to see you still providing insight :)
A friend of mine is interested at $25 a coin for the more common dates which look to be 32 of the 33 coins in the later display case (all but the 38D), and about 18 of of the 32 coins in the earlier case. Looks like I have to determine fair pricing for:
1916 1916D 1916S
1917 1917D obv 1917S obv 1917D rev
1919 1919D 1919S
1921 1921D 1921S
1923S 1938D
So $25 x 50 = $1,250 and then whatever I come up with for these 15 coins..

Does $2,256 with the display cases thrown in seem fair?

Great topic, on just what we can get for our collection, once we decide to let go. We all will be in this situation, sooner or later. Good luck!

Thanks jbuck. I was shooting for 2500, would've liked 2400, but it was a friend so I knocked a little off and included the expensive cases.
