CAC - After gaining control of the Philippines in 1898, it would take until 1903 for the U.S. to pass a coinage act and begin producing U.S. Philippine coinage. From 1903 to 1908, the Philadelphia Mint was the sole provider of Philippine proof sets. The U.S. Mint produced 1,355 Philippine proof sets in 1904. These sets were wrapped in tissue paper and placed within a standard paper envelope. This subpar storage lowered the survival rate of Gem Proofs. With rich toning and stellar luster, this example showcases the best of what you can find from that original packaging. This piece is graded CAC PR68.
