That is some amazing coins. What is clear to me is in collecting the coins Dan became a historian of the area by design or force. I am curious what he has invested in his collection. Most likely never know the answer to that question. Thanks for posting numisEd cool video.

Wow what an ancient coins collection, big bucks. I didn't know PCGS has expanded their grading into ancient coins bur maybe they made an exception. Most graded ancients have been done by NGC. I prefer my ancient coins raw so I can hold them.

It looks like a T-Rex skull, double wow. I have some ancient coins and some fossils but on the low end of market value LOL.

He shows a gold Constantine I looking heavenward. I have one too but a copper version. I bought it years ago from Victor here on CCF.

And it depends on when the collection was put together. I think until quite recently most of the Byzantine rulers could be had in quite high grade for modest 4 figure amounts. I've never shopped Roman or Greek, so I have no idea on those, probably a lot higher.
And there is the whole grading/top pop angle. As pointed out by livingwater, grading of ancients is a lot more recent, so he may never have been competing for "top pop" coins; he was finding and buying them before there was any "pop."
It's a bit odd that he continued with Ottoman emperors since I think they had no portrait coins, and that seemed to mean a lot to him.
