Quote:Funny thing about the Yugo... A friend in high school had one. He tried and tried to break, wreck, or destroy it. That car would not fail. So whenever people claim they are crap cars, I know better. Nice! I had a '73 Pinto that I drove through the desert here and that thing just kept on motoring

Quote: Nice! I had a '73 Pinto that I drove through the desert here and that thing just kept on motoring I wish I could say the same of my '78 Chevette. I broke the rear axel twice—Although I may have done some things to the poor little four-banger to give it more oomf.

Very nice, jbuck. I was very happy in my 1965 red VW (with the 4 track tape deck). Spent many nights cruising Whittier Blvd with windows down and Jimi Hendrix blasting on the tape deck.

Thank you and nice to see another former bug owner. What you see there had a custom sound system stuffed inside—Alpine disk changer, Precision Power amps (over 1000 watts RMS total) driving front and rear MB Quart component speakers with two MTX 15" subwoofers in a custom enclosure built by moi. In this photo I am parked in front of the stereo shop I worked at until 1997 (they later moved across the street). I could shake tools on the peg boards in the back of the building. My coworkers called it the bass horn because of the shape. Next door is the company I work for now (same family, brothers)... I should update this annotated photo to say 2002 to 2020, when I started working from home.

There's always a special connection with your first car. VW Bugs were very popular around here in the mid 60s. In 1967 in the student parking lot at my high school almost half of the cars were VWs.

Well, to be clear, the Bug was my second car and I got it after I started at Clemson. The Chevette was my first, but I had the Bug longer and it is my only previous car I wish I kept.
