It looks like a plating issue to me. On many zincolns, the 1992s in particular, you can see a faint 'ghost' image of the coin's details that look like MD. Though it is possible that this is an RPM, the left part of the D looks too thin to me and makes me think that irregular copper plating is the culprit.

i have seen many 1980s cents with copper plating issues, I think it was a time when everything was made poorly.
