I'm not sure, but, can ANYBODY submit a possible winning drawing for these competitions? Maybe I'll doodle a bit for 2016....

Here's the process....

http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs...ignSelection

Step 3 is the (sort of) answer to your question...

Quote:
Based on the source materials, the United States Mint will produce three to five candidate designs focusing on aesthetic beauty, historical accuracy, authenticity, appropriateness and coinability.

However... that doesn't address where the designs are sourced. Anyone know?

Celtic... I believe the designs are sourced from local information on the parks, in conjunction with local experts at the state levels. I think you'd need to go back to the original law that created these as well as the selection process used for the parks chosen to get the specifics.

Provident has posted product pages of the last two '14 bullion pucks with what looks like US Mint supplied photos of the actual struck coins. Looks better than expected especially the Everglades coin. It's a toss up between whether the vapored unc coins are better this year or the proof like bullion. The quality of the bullion has improved since the beginning of the series.

Also got the subscription email about the Sand Dunes coin ready to be shipped in four weeks. Coin #24 and this time next year the series will be 1/2 way through to the end... Time flies.

May be a good time to invest in some bullion coins...with silver prices continuing to drop..I'm no soothsayer, but, my gut instincts tell me some sort of financial bubbles are about to burst..silver and gold may be smart investments, as continual printing of money will eventually backfire....of course, these spikes come and go fairly fast...the trick, to prevent sellers remorse, is to have perfect timing....my long term plan is to have a complete SP70 PCGS set, a full run...2010-2021...they are fun to own...I'm still awaiting storage boxes built for these over-sized slabs...NOBODY has a bleepin thing out..I hear Lighthouse has some in the works...in a way, this "denomination" gets little respect from suppliers...considering the BIG money involved in certain coins, and/or, year sets(someone just sold a similar 2011-P set for over 11k), one would THINK there would be more display and storage options to choose from...I see a lot of population numbers on the increase..probably numbers from the big bullion dealers who have larger subsciptions(Ampex, BGASC, etc..), so, the trend is quicker sellouts..hopefully, the Mint will keep mintages in the 25k-30k per coin going...what's nice is anyone from the public can subscribe, and, join in the fun of collecting these monsters.

The last two P pucks have outsold the bullion pucks. I think the subscriptions have a lot to do with that.

I think so too. The price is really a nice one especially with the discount.

I lost interest in this series.. I wanted to start, and blah,,, just fizzled.. being gettng very picky about the coins I want and like.

That said, I really only want still the PR quarter, an the upcoming Florida,,, those designs look great.

I think I can my PR for much less as silver prices dribble around doing nothing or even better, move lower.

Well, of course it's the ultra-rare light satin variety with that gnarly "FirstStrike" designation. Certainly worth $6500. And yes... gold? I wonder if the seller intentionally did that to the picture.

Speaking of gold, there's been so much hype for the Kennedy gold half that I've almost forgotten about the next issue. When's the next P puck available?

Only PCGS could come up with a gimmick like First Strike couple that with a minor production problem and create a market for suckers willing to pay $1,000+ per ounce to own it.

Can't wait til the label frenzy implodes on itself.
