Went to Vons and check the coinstar today,got a few items,including a quarter, a dime, a penny, and something like decorating bead. And finally get my first coin star silver!!  |

 Congrats, Broseph! I was at the store yesterday watching a mother/son feed a large bag of coins into the CoinStar, salivating at the thought they wouldn't check the reject bin. Unfortunately, they fed in a lump of coins that were stuck together, and the machine jammed. Manager came over, opened it, and began clearing the jam. She grabbed a few of them and tossed them into a can labelled "dirt trap" on the inside. One of them I could tell was a silver quarter. After reassembly and restart, manager walked off and the couple finished by clearing out the rejects.  Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Pulled this pile out of the reject tray. 4 silver dimes, 4 steelies, and a 2017 Aforika Berwa(South Africa) 10 cent piece!  |

So I was dumping some coins in a coin star mixed denomination and heard the familiar sound of a rejected coin. When I reached in to grab it to my surprise the reject tray was completely over flowing with nickels. About 6 dollars worth. I grabbed them and dumped them back in but every single one came back out only nickles. I know I didn't have but 50 cents that I put in. I put them in again and once more every one came back out can any one tell me why? It took all of my nickels but spat out the ones that were left there? Should I be looking through them?

I have been looking at Coinstars ever since I found that 1969 half in the rejects that one time. All have either been empty or have nothing but zincolns. Perhaps with the poor economy people are squirreling through their rejects?

Congrats on the finds! My wife thinks I'm silly for walking past coinstar machines, looking at the tray, but once in a while I get something.

Steelerdrew, there must be a reason that those nickels were rejected. Definitely take a close look at them!

Nothing out of the ordinary there were a few no mint marks on the oldest 1974 ones all were 5grams each gonna drop them in a different machine and see what happens if they all get spit out again I'll take them somewhere and have them look at them. Thanks for the welcomes. |

Just checked the coinstar and found a 1943 steel cent. It's my third steel cent at this coinstar machine.
