I looked through all of the 234 quarters I found in one bunch at a Coinstar machine. I at first thought they were mostly "P" mints, but found it was just the first types I checked (the women quarters and the 2019-2020 ATB's) eagle reverse: 14 (9-P, 4-D, 1-S) 1776-1976: 2 (1-P, 1-D) 50 States: 41 (24-P, 17-D) ATB: 123 (72-P, 50-D, 1-S) C-T-Delaware: 28 (26-P, 2-D) Women: 28 (23-P, 3-D) TOTAL: 155-P, 77-D, 2-S Was hoping to find a 'W', but no luck. Also, a few were 1965's but nothing earlier. Oh, and the "S"'s were both clad. |

The uncirculated S mint ATBs were sold in bags as NIFC quarters.

Nothing exciting but this French 2 eurocents is the first coin I've found in a Coinstar machine for ages.  Funnily enough, I've just noticed that among the coins pictured on the outside of British Coinstar machines is a 2017 £2 - a coin which was only issued in BU and Proof Sets and not for circulation! |

How does someone walk away from all of that if they were making a coin dump? Or did the Coinstar machine have a malfunction or even release the Kraken after being all jammed up? How can you do this with CoinStar Machines? All I know about CoinStar machines, as I understand it, they only take coins in, and never give coins out! (Only vouchers, I believe.) I don't understand. Can someone fill me in on the secret?

Can someone fill me in on the secret? Welcome. Coinstar machines work by weighing coins and checking their magnetism. If a coin is outside the parameters of most US coins, the Coinstar will reject it. Since silver coins (mostly dimes quarters and half dollars minted before 1965) are heavier than modern coins, the Coinstar will not accept them in many cases. Most people who exchange coins at a Coinstar do not realize that their coins that are rejected may not be accepted because they are silver or other reasons. Some people take the rejected coins back, but many people leave the coins in the reject tray and so all you have to do is check the reject tray and may find foreign coins, tokens, and silver. I have found some as well so its all true, so long as others havent already grabbed whats in the reject slot which is the biggest issue in large traffic areas like where mine are located. Datadragon, thanks for the inside scoop! I have yet to figure out how to reply to an individual's post. (This forum is not as intuitive as others I have used.) I'll be checking those reject trays!

If so, here's what you can do: There's a button at the end of every thread that says "Switch To Full Reply". That will bring you to a new page with more options including an "insert quote" button. So you could copy the post you want to quote, hit the button for full reply, then hit the insert quote button, then paste the quote... et voila! The text to which you're replying will then appear as a block of text in your reply like what I did in this post. PS: my last 3 trips to Coinstar I came up with dust and lint.Congrats to all who still find silver out there! |

My most unusual Coinstar find ever... So this morning, I hit some of my usual CRH banks and any Coinstars that were in the same malls... I get to this one machine and, while there's nothing in the reject bin, I do see a single dime lodged in the right side of the feed area of the machine. I get my keys out and pull the coin with my right hand and grab it with one of my fingers on my left hand. Couldn't believe my eyes when I read the date...  Yes, a 1963-D dime!  My guess is that the person kept feeding it in and perhaps it got rejected one last time and they threw it in the top again as the machine was done counting the rest of their change CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
