I saw a picture with a bag of 100 of those plastic pennies for $3 or $4. Funny how the plastic pennies are worth more than the real ones.

I walk by a CoinStar machine when I leave my Safeway, and always look in the reject tray. Today there was a bright looking Dime, and turns out it was an AU 64-D, with some rim damage, so just silver value. Nice grocery discount, but doesn't make up for inflation. Still pretty cool.

My best day so far! My grocery shopping involves two stores - coincidentally, the only ones in town that have Coinstars.
First store: 1 trashed copper cent, 3 zincolns and a guitar pick!

Second store: this deserves a back story. As I walked up to the machine, a guy from Mexico was preparing to use the machine. He pulled out a grocery bag half-full of coins, and I was hoping to score a few Mexican coins when he was done. He started dumping in the coins, and at least half were rejected. My eyes lit up! But he knew about the reject bin, and kept emptying it. But the rejection rate remained about the same. I waited about 10 minutes, watching him feed coins in and pull them from the reject tray. I even checked out the coins, and they were US quarters. After a short while, when it looked like he would be there a while longer, I did my shopping and left (he was still at the machine). Unloaded my groceries and realized that I forgot the most important item - COFFEE! Went back in, and he was no longer at the machine. But there was $9.66 remaining in the bin, including a 1964 dime!

Thank you, Errers! I'm still stoked over it. And the guitar pick is quite puzzling - how did it go through a Coinstar?

Still in the midst of my worst Coinstar slump ever... 4 1/2 months since I found a silver coin, and hardly any "junk" change in the reject bins.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
