Let me be super clear on this,,we will never have a dooms day way of living ever,,never going to happen..US will go broke sure could happen,,buying silver is not about trading for food..Its about getting your money flipped into a Rare Metal..Not trading for food that is silly as is a dooms day is silly...

China,,,we owe China, lots, bunches,we buy way to much China items. They import way to easy to Wal Marts ect. Taxes them higher when they import. China,,,smart folks, mighty fighters, good with money, safe players..Yup7676 see no reason to think China is a super power ok,guess you think US is hhhmmmm. Where youth get schooling they test better then US youth. They never stop trading well for a little they do. They are good with paper money Yup7676. They are not foolish or unsafe superpower..

Tell everybody why we owe China so much,,,explain why US does not have items for sale in China all over the place?I must know what you think.Yup7676 how is Wall Street and the US going to do in next 4 months. If you are unsure good we all are..Yup7676 China not worried..They do not sell high end items to most folks here in are stores.I would think you who works with paper would be more careful telling folks what the US Stocks and Dollar will do..Buy silver,,hoard Copper and Zinc....Cosmos

They do sell silver ones. I can't recall the company though. Sometimes I think those buying PMs for a "survival" do so for an after the dust settles scenario.

You can never be too careful about werewolves

Thats actually where you would see the benefits from them after the dust settles. The only problem with that is it would be years if not decades before that happened. If you have a bunker somewhere you can hid out in that makes sense, if you dont though thats a lot of dead weight to be carrying around.

Exactly right. No use if not prepared as well. And in the right part of the country.

"I guess my thing is... you know I am a trader. So, I dont care about what happens to anything. IF say the dollar went higher, I could care less. If the dollar fell, I could care less."

So if there is a derivative crisis and your counterparty can't pay up, then you lose no matter what.

"Oh wait, you guys can always fall back on the talk of "manipulation" . "

ok so this is funny why? Practically every week we find out about another banking manipulation going on.

ever hear of the London Gold pool, we already know they tried to manipulate gold in the past, and that was before they had all the modern derivative tools they have now...

"anyone who thinks the USD is going to rot away obviously doesn't understand that the USD is never going away."

Nevers a long time man... This statement is factually incorrect, all things end, but the timing is what matters.

"growing tomatos and fishing have been a better investment by tenfold"

growing tomatoes and fishing are not an investment, they are either a hobby or a job.

The dollar will fail. The demographics of the US combined with our entitlement programs make this a certainty. The question is will it fail before then.

China has 1/5th of the world population
That alone has power.

The US is supposedly the top superpower. Considering no one owns more of our debt than china, that has power as well (they own well over a trillion in US debt, about 1.3 trillion and counting)

Also, they have the second highest GDP in the world. Their GDP is on a SHARP uptrend since 2005, surpassing Japan in 2009. If the trends continue, they could pass the US in the next ten years. It's just like reading a stock market chart.

This GDP spike has fueled their defense budget like no one's business. Go look at the stats

Saying they are not and cannot be a superpower seems... kind of indefensible. You would have to turn a blind eye to pretty much all those facts.

Again, I will say it again, China is not a world superpower and is not one nor will they be one. Period. Anyone who thinks they are, is wrong, sorry to say.

China cannot influence the price of gold and silver. Anyone who thinks this is wrong and has no idea how gold and silver markets work. Thats not being smug either, but that fact is people shouldn't be judging or assuming things when they have never ever traded, worked for banks on the commodity desks etc etc.

That said, you all are entitled to your opinions and I respect them just as I would expect you to respect my viewpoint. To me, this isn't life or death.

As a trader, I will repeat, I do not CARE where silver and gold go, just give me a trend and confirmation where I can make money either selling them or buying then and that makes me happy

Heck, let the entire financial system smash to pieces, I will gladly be selling everything short.

Geo, I got a huge laugh from what you said lol. None of it makes sense, but its ok, again I respect your views and I dont expect someone who doesn't trade and work in markets everyday to understand what happens. :)

have a good friday night my friends, all of you! see you all on the weekend!

Regardless of where the United States and China are going in the future; there is only one Superpower currently; The United States.

A Superpower is judged by it's ability to project it's power and enforce it's will.

Granted that the US, China, and Russia can all destroy each other. Only the US can destroy the entire World; through Nuclear weapons.

No other Nation can project power and enforce it's will. Whether we lack the political backbone is another question.

We have over a dozen Super Carriers that can go anywhere in the world. China has zero Super Carriers. Russia; zero. Great Britain; Zero. France; Zero. India; Zero. Those other countries do have smaller conventional Carriers, but quite frankly we can destroy them any time we want to; with impunity.

We can, and have, controled the airspace anywhere in the world we felt like it. NO other Nation has done so. Nor can it. The Air Forces of the other Nations on Earth are limited by the locations of their Bases and their refueling capabilities. No other Nation has a fleet of Heavy Bombers.

On the land the United States is the only Nation to have engaged in major Tank Battles; and won since WW2. You can laugh at Iraq or dismiss them as you will, but before we invaded in 91 they had the fourth largest Army in the world, and the third largest Armored forces in the World. The latest equipment that the Russians and Chinese could supply them with. And we over ran them in less than 4 days. Taking minimal casualties while inflicting maximum destruction. After the first Gulf War they rearmed with the best Russian and Chinese weapons....and got destroyed a second time.

This lesson was not lost on the Russians and Chinese. They KNOW we can defeat them in any Conventional Battle. China has a lot of Soldiers it's true. But they are essentially useless if they can't be moved or "projected" to where the Chinese want them. And they can't move them without us destroying them in transit. Why do you think Taiwan is still "allowed" to exist?

And lastly we, and only we, control the high orbitals.

Our economic and political clout may be waning, but it will be at least a generation or two till we are threatened militarily.

That is why we are a super power. That and the fact that we feed roughly half the World. Oh, and lets not forget that we are on the verge of being a net oil exporter again.

As for doomsday. Anything is possible. Perhaps not probable, but those that think the status quo can be kept forever need only look at how fast the Imperial Russian Government disappeared after almost a 1000 years of existence. Or how fast the Imperial Chinese Court vanished after several thousand years of existence. These things can happen in the blink of an eye. And most are fueled by the smallest common denominator; the common man who became tired of being abused by his or her Government.

Read your history.

Now back to Silver......

"I find that statement Arrogant and ill informed .
The last 2 times the US has started a War with a Country backed by China it has ended in tears."

Really? Do you even read History or just listen to propoganda.

You're talking about Korea and Vietnam?

First we never started those fights. In Korea the North invaded the south and the UN stepped in to stop the invasion. We were just part of the UN forces in Korea. That War is not over, so I don't see how it could have "ended in tears". We actually beat them back over the starting line and held them. It was declassified years ago that when the North Koreans wanted the Chinese to send in masses of Reinforcements; that Truman quietly told the Chinese he would nuke the border of China and Korea. The Chinese backed down.

In Vietnam, we again did not start that fight. When the French lost Indo-China and Vietnam was divided into two countries the southern half asked a neutral party to guarantee their Political safety and Survival. When the North launched attacks and raids into the south with the aim of conquest; we were obligated by treaty to step in.

As for losing that war, that is modern revisionist propoganda. Does South Vietnam still exist? No, it does not. Did the NVA invade when we were still in the country and defeat our forces? No, it did not. It signed a peace treaty with us and when we withdrew it waited two years and re-armed...ah with mostly Russian, not Chinese help...and then broke it's treaty and blitzedkrieged the South and won the war against the south, but not against us. We had already withdrawn, because of a peace treaty. The Vietnamese admitted that Linebacker I and, especially, Linebacker II were effective and responsible for bringing them to the Peace Table. The Chinese and the Russians were unable to stop our forces when the Military was allowed to fight the war, and not the profiteers and politicians. We won every major battle of the war; including Tet.

There was no Chinese boogyman that tossed us out of Korea, which we are still at war with, or Vietnam; which wasn't an ally of China for most of the US involvement.

In fact the United States has only lost a war to one other Country in it's history; Canada in the War of 1812. We invaded they kicked our butts. But that was a sibling thing.
