...in a cube of Lucite in an antique store today. I did not buy, but I thought it worthy of a quick snap of a pic my phone to share here:  "That's illegal to do" said a patron next to me of the encapsulation. "Could be," I replied, "but try to find someone to enforce it." |

I wouldn't exactly consider 1969 pennies antiques. Are there any 1969-S doubled dies in there? Here are some antique Indian Head cents preserved for posterity.  |

Ha! No accounting for what's in the store, it's one of them antique malls that has multiple vendors selling things though the place.
The MM's I saw were D's.

I was just wondering if you found a nice S-VDB Lincoln or 1877 Indian encased in Lucite, would there be a way to get them out and what shape would the coin be in then?  |

You could easily dissolve lucite in many solvents (acetone, THF, MEK), it might take a while to dissolve a large piece, but the coins would be unharmed.

Hmm...I might whack that out again... last couple didnt work so well but I reckon I've worked it out now. Got some stuff to embed (need some successes before I trie it on coins).

This was extremely popular around 1970 and in 1973 I had made numerous cubes with coins, photos, gold watch parts, etc. inside multi-shaped forms and gave most of them out as gifts.
The few I had kept for myself was tossed in the garbage sometime in the late 80's or early 90's as the plastic turned a ugly yellowish color..
