"It was struck on a silver planchet meant for the dime and clad in copper"... ...because, of course the mint would have corrected the mistake by plating the silver coin with copper ...

Here's a very common U.S. Mint medal from the 1880's, where the seller claims it is still in its OGP plastic envelope. Of course, plastic wasn't developed until well into the 20th Century.   The seller's AI-enhanced description reiterates: Quote:
