Boomer, good pics are important for good evaluations. Try experimenting with different lighting (daylight is usually pretty good) and post an accurate depiction of your coin. A rim shot and weight in grams might prove to be helpful too.

If you are going to make a scratch, do it on the outside edge of the coin. If it is really copper, then it should not show any silver color. I would carry it in my pocket for a time and see the coin look like antiqued color. Silver on the higher spots and copper on the fields. (Make sure to take images of the progress) It might make a real nice color if you stop the progress before it changes too much silver color.
