This is a nice thread that's gone pretty quiet. I am an avid collector of German State coinage (mainly crown sized) so it's always heartwarming to see German State coinage posted.

Here is something a bit outside of my usual purchases - it was too pretty and I couldn't resist.

A fairly uncommon and very condition sensitive issue: 1891 Hesse Darmstadt 2 Mark .

A "kriegsgeld" (literally, "war money") 10 pfennig piece, ferrous in composition, issued in 1917 by Neuwied on the Rhine.

...Um, it isn't? The mintage, I mean.

Anhalt wasn't a very large state; it only had 328,007 people living there as of 1905, and probably not much more than that in 1909.
As such, a mintage of 100,000 (according to Numista) was reasonably proportional to the population; if anything, for such a large denomination, the mintage was larger than expected.

(For comparison, the respective Prussian coin had a mintage of 6.34 million for a population of about 40 million.)
