Just googled the "US recessions": there was a big recession during 1882-1885. So coin production in 1886 was significantly reduced, just like 1922 and 1931-2

I doubt it will matter much, but just a reminder that all world coins are fair game, provided they were found in circulation in recent times.
Truthfully, I am amazed at how smoothly this thread went for 127 years!

FWIW, if you search "1886" in this forum, you get hits in a few dozen threads. They are out there and we have them!

Don't have a photo at the ready. Will have to get one when I visit my parents next (I keep the bulk of my collection with them because of apartment living). Once I get it I'll post it up.

Ah, there it is. 1886 type II (barely able to discern it, but it is) IHC, found in a box of pennies.   Edited by SaintRidley
