@TheNickelGuy, nice to see a familiar face on this thread again! Along the same lines, I have a "minim" type barbarous of the same design that clocks on at only about 9mm!   |

Also posted this in another thread, but it's fitting:  Most of the late emperors (after Theodosius I) were extremely zealous Catholics. This was one of their favorite designs. Early coins have a cross with the legend CONCORDIA AVG (GG) (Unity of the Emperors; the number of G's at the end indicated how many were currently serving). Late coins simply had a wreath, and some rare coins issued very late had SALVS REIPVLICE (Health of the Republic). When Rome fell, the various barbarian invaders also adopted the design. Most of these are common Theodosius II issues, but at least four are rare barbarian emissions. I try to keep every one I come across. |
