My credit card was also pre authorized by RCM presumably in prep for shipping.

Point to think / speculate:

with current popularity of the Gold Delta coin, only 12-14 people stood in line near the boutique.
So these people aren't tourists, they clearly knew where and when to try to get. What about others - not interested in new popular coin from RCM or got enough?

Does this reflect the demand in Vancouver?

Anyone watching the supply on the silver? Edit: Nevermind - see its 417.

Seeing as they have 5,000 its odd that they started with 750. I wonder if they are holding back inventory and will add quantity if there is demand. I'm not familiar with Perth to know if that's what they tend to do or not with larger issues.

@Silveroid

We are talking about CAD$1300 Delta Gold Coin, not CAD$140 Ladybug Silver Coin. Demand for sure will be lower on high price item.

Also today is Tuesday. Most people work at 10am on weekday.

Last, no advertisement about release date on Delta Gold Coin from RCM. So only handful of customers knew about today's event.

@Silveroid,

I was pretty surprised at how small the lineup was. A few more people showed up after the picture was taken; making a total of maybe 20 people. Most left when it was announced that only the first 9 customers will get the Star Trek coin.

For the most part, the Mint Boutique is dead as a doornail. Sometimes I am the only customer in the store. The only time they are busy is when they have a coin exchange.

Like justsilver says, we are not looking at chump change here. $1400 is lot to spend on a coin when that is a months salary for some people.

Besides, the low interest in coins in Vancouver is hobby wide. I don't think there is the same level of interest in coin collecting that was there just a few years ago.

yes, thank you guys, this clarifies the stuff.
I think, the low level of awareness seriously contributed. Otherwise, this coin could be re-sold immediately at the place for let's say CAD 200 more cash (to the less successful customer).

Pretty good deal, unless you factor in the shipping costs to Canada and the duties you would have to pay? Not sure how it works for Canadian pure gold coins coming back into Canada.

@CoinCanuck94

JM Bullion does not ship outside USA, but free shipping within USA

Will either find someone who live close by border to drive to US, picking up parcel ( USD$50 fee )
or drive to USA to pickup coins myself + filling up cheaper gas for my car.

For .995+ gold or .999 silver ( coin ), no Customs tax.

A couple of weeks ago two of them sold for $2395 each.
Since then, most of the sales are between $1800 and $2000.

So the coin that sold for $2029 is within that range, especially it was a "Best Offer" coin. It probably sold for below $2000.

Thanks for clarifying that for me justsilver. If you live in the GTA, there's a US address post office near Buffalo which you can rent which is just a couple hours drive.

@CoinCanuck94

I live in Vancouver and I do have PO.Box in USA.

Just too lazy to drive to USA just because of picking up package.
