Quote: What did the raw silver and lead ore look like?
I'm a rockhound from all my years living in AZ ... so we had to of course divert across a deep canyon to visit the Tenstrike Mine ... worked from 1912 to 1954 and produced a number of minerals including lead, silver, gold and others.
The lead was in the form of heavy mineral in the native rock ... the silver was a lucky find as native silver bands in some quartz that I bashed open with my 4-pound rock pick ... who else carries a 4-pound hammer on a long hike? LOL
Here is a photo of the mine ... halfway down the canyon approach ...
Difficult to obtain photos of both of us on the hike ... but here we are with my 10 second timer ... sandy wash on day #2 ...
My thanks to all who have relied to this post ... great fun disconnecting for 6 days ... and I'm pleased to be back with you sharing as can.
