Here is my entry.

1985 Mexican peso:

1992 Mexico 5 new pesos:

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!
Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

Because of inflation, the peso was revalued between these two coins' mintings at a rate of $1,000 to each N$1. So, I understand that this represents a ratio of 5,000:1. The "Nuevo" was added for a few years to signify the newly valued currency but was dropped shortly thereafter.

I believe j1m is looking for coins surrounding a currency revaluation, not simply coins with drastically different face values due to inflation. Typically, the two I posted would have a face value ratio of 5:1, but because of the revaluation, it's actually 5,000:1, or 1:5,000, whichever you prefer.

2nd attempt at understanding this --

Coin 1) Brazil -- 20000 reis from 1867 (gold)
Coin 2) Brazil -- 20 cruzeiro from 1983

Revaluations:

- 1942: 1 cruzeiro = 1000 reis
- 1967: 1 cruzeiro (novo) = 1000 cruzeiros

20 cruzeiros from 1983 = 20 X 1000 X 1000 = 20,000,000 reis, or 1000x the 20000 reis coin from 1867?

@pepactonius

I bent my brain for a bit, but I realized it doesn't matter.

This is true.

Nice entry @spruett001!

I'm counting 1 point for dates, 1 point for face value ratio and 1 point for redenomination, for a total of 3 points.

Current leaderboard:

1) spruett001 - 3 points
2) Spence - 0 points

I'll take the points! That N$5 still isn't worth much, though.

Empire of Brazil -- 20000 reis, 1867:

Federative Republic of Brazil -- 20 cruzeiros (novos), 1983:

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

See earlier post showing that the 1983 coin is worth 1000 of the 1867 coins.

(Edited to add: It's too bad I don't have a modern Brazilian real. One of these is worth 2.75E+18 of the original Brazilian reis. There were three more 1000x revaluations, and one 2750x revaluation since 1983.)

Huh. It's been five days apparently.
I'll give it two more unless you want to end it sooner.

Current leaderboard:

1) spruett001 - 3 points
2) pepactonius - 3 points
3) Spence - 0 points

(For the record, pepactonius gets 1 point for face value ratio and 2 points for the redenominations... I really should have called them "redenominations" instead of "currency changes" in my original description.)

Live and learn.

I think we're okay with a couple more days.

It looks like there hadn't been anything for the rest of that week, so the previously posted leaderboard stays...

1) spruett001 - 3 points
2) pepactonius - 3 points
3) Spence - 0 points

Dunno if that was an overly complicated challenge, or the thread is just no longer so active.

@spruett001 - you're up!

I know I haven't been as active here. Anyway, I just saw this so give me a bit to come up with a challenge.
