Spreutt001 - yes I recall your previous posting of one of these. CONGRATULATIONS on finding such a set. I can appreciate your good fortune. They didn't seem to suffer from being in their album all these years. Thanks for posting.

edit: I took a closer look at these, found many familiar scenes from Nurnberg when I was stationed there. Nice memories!

New in the mail today, one medal I have been on the lookout for:

A CENTURY OF PROGRESS
1833 1933
CHICAGO

Obverse: A very strong Art Deco design of a seated woman holding a log cabin with a stylized modern city, Chicago, rising behind

The reverse depicts the layout of the fair grounds.

Brass, 1-1/2" diameter.
Wording on headband on woman I WILL.

I wasn't aware of the motto significance until I went looking:

At bottom, GREENDUCK CO, CHI. a Chicago medal producer.

Edit: dang the image almost looks better than the actual medal, not bad now for a cell ophone camera!

And a pic of it ready to slip into my album...

I'm content to make my own "slabs". ;) These appear difficult to find raw mint state. I saw it too. Good luck!

Well, I finally found something I really wanted.

1971 Milwaukee Wisconsin
The United States Conference of Mayors

Sterling Silver Medal - Mintage 2109

A-Continuing-Thread-~-Post-Your-Tokens,-Medals,-Exonumia-Acquisitions
A silly blunder by The Franklin Mint. This medal states that Milwaukee is "Wisconsin's Beautiful Capital City".
A tale of two Mayors or is that Maiers?

Henry Walter Maier (February 7, 1918 - July 17, 1994) was an American politician and the longest-serving mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, holding office from 1960 to 1988.

William D. "Bill" Dyke (April 25, 1930 - March 10, 2016) was an American lawyer, judge, and politician. He was a two-term mayor of Madison, Wisconsin from 1969 to 1973 and ran with Lester Maddox for vice president on the American Independent Party ticket in 1976.

The obverse shows an image of The Milwaukee War Memorial Building.

. Well, I got a little lucky the other day and came across a rarely available set with an original cardboard album. It wasn't quite complete (missing two pieces), but I was able to win it for a good amount less than I was willing to pay.
Excellent!

Thanks TNG, Tunnioc, 999fine and jbuck! I was very happy to see it up for sale. Thanks for the suggestion, TNG, about keeping the album separate. It's just thin cardboard and seems a little fragile at this point. I will be removing all the pieces anyway to compare the duplicates, so it makes sense to keep them in 2x2s so I don't stress that album any more than necessary. It's nearly 100 years old, after all.

By the way, I love the look of that Progress medal, 999fine!

TNG -. It wasn't just Franklin Mint who erred, there is the committee who sponsored the medal and approved the design stages, etc. At least I would think.

1960's Clines Corners New Mexico Good Luck Souvenir
A-Continuing-Thread-~-Post-Your-Tokens,-Medals,-Exonumia-Acquisitions
I do think this dates to the early 1960's because of the style and the use of periods in the abbreviation of New Mexico.

Clines Corners is located in in Torrance County, New Mexico, at the junction of Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 285. The community was established in 1937 by Roy E. Cline, who built a rest stop at what was then the intersection of U.S. Route 66 and US 285; the rest stop today, is known as Clines Corners Retail Center.

Roy E. Cline had an idea, give road weary travelers a place to stop, shop and eat.
In 1934, his vision came to life with the opening of a filling station and cafe at the intersection of New Mexico State Highways 6 and 2 between Moriarty and Santa Rosa New Mexico.

In 1937, The American Association of State Highway Officials approved the Santa Rosa Cutoff that shortened Route 66. New Mexico Highway 6 moved slightly north and was renamed Route 66/U.S. 285.
This posed a problem for Roy Cline and he would have to move the gas station and restaurant to the new Route 66. He purchased the land northwest of the intersecting Highway and convinced map makers to place Clines Corners on the map. Today, travelers can find Clines Corners in the same spot that Roy Cline purchased in 1937.

In 1939 Cline sold his property to S. Lynn Smith ("Smitty") who worked the place with his wife. The Smiths prospered and expanded their business. After Smitty's death in 1961 his wife Helen sold Clines Corners.
Over the years, Clines Corners Retail Center has had 5 owners.

Today in 2019, over the 82 years that Clines Corners has been serving the travelers along I-40, the facility has grown to match the demands of it's customers. Clines is no longer a little building and cafe, but has grown to 30,000 square feet of retail space, two convenience filling stations, an RV park, and restaurants.

Nice nostalgic medal, would love to add one myself. A flash from the past as I've been there several times from the mid-1970s through the late 1990s. Thanks for showing. Would live a photo card from that place like you b/w image!

I have been through there too in the early 70's. I am sure we stopped there but things like that didn't matter much at the time. It was no Wall Drug or South of The Border. LOL

I may have 15 or 20 big lucky pennies and nickels.
1930's Pikes Peak Lucky Nickel - BIG Souvenir Medal

I add this one to my collection today. I have been to over 40 of the 50 states but have not been to Colorado.
I have heard it is one of the most beautiful places to visit but I may never get there.
This 70 mm Big Lucky Nickel shows 4 natural attractions on the reverse. Pikes Peak and at her feet, The Garden of the Gods. In the ovals are Cave of the Winds and Seven Falls.
