None so good as Robin Hood

Thanks thisistheshow. It is pretty extensive. Few hundred different books, about a hundred patches, posters, memerobilia, tins, shoes, puppets, lunchboxes you name it.

Robin Hood was used extensively in advertising in the 50s and 60s. Everything from cars to amunition, airplanes to bicycles to flour and hair tonic. Etc.

Rare to have someone so famous yet have to pay no royalties to use his name and likeness.

When I was a little kid the first chapter book I ever read cover to cover was "The Silver Horn of Robin Hood" by Donald E. Cooke. Once I found my own copy of that around 1985 (which a was an arduous task pre internet) I was bitten by the thrill of the hunt.

I think it may be my favorite as well. Thanks for the idea and for starting the thread, TNG! I rarely contribute or add any depth to my posts as I should because I'm always in a "hurry", but I appreciate the time and research you put into yours. Always interesting reads. Maybe I'll go back and spruce up my last addition.

This is a beautiful German proof medal fresh from a 50+ year old private collection that is being sold off. It's not scarce, but it's remarkably well preserved.

Rev: An autumn or harvest wreath with five images -- a steamship, a mine, a cottage, an iron foundry and a wool mill -- encircles a steam locomotive and its tender (the 'Adler', Germany's first successful commercial steam locomotive, built in 1835) that is passing over a brick arched bridge. The images represent Germany's key industrial and trade exports of the era: shipbuilding, textiles, metal, ore, and timber.

Engraved by C. H. Lorenz & E. Schilling and struck by Loos.

Legend in German: Vorwärts mit Deutschem Fleisse und Deutscher Kraft (Forward with German industriousness and German strength)

One of two surviving replicas of the 'Adler' (Eagle) was fully restored and rebuilt from 2007-2010 and resides in the Nuremberg Transport Museum, where it still makes rail journeys -- under its own steam! -- on very special occasions.
